The Tobin Youth Centre Committee was formed in 2011, to purchase the St Malachy's Football Hall and renovate the hall into a Youth Centre.Throughout 2014 and 2015, Tobin Youth Centre Committee secured funding to install a wooden floor within the Sports Hall, establish an IT Suite within one of the activity rooms, and develop a community garden to the rear of the Centre.
The Committee secured £165,000 in grant funding from SWARD to permit the purchase the building, which took place in December 2012, and internal renovations, replacing the changing rooms into activity rooms. McQuillian Building Contractors were contracted to undertake the internal renovations, with all work completed by April 2013. Tobin Youth Centre was opened in June 2013. Since establishment Tobin Youth Centre have provided Gymnastic classes (with an average of 87 children attending each semester); Hip Hop classes (with an average of 31 children attending each semester); Creation Station (with 39 children attending); Tag Ruby classes (with 20 children attending); and Indoor Soccer classes (with an average of 30 children attending each semester). In addtion, Tobin Youth Centre have held DVD nights, children and teenage discos, Summer schemes (with over 100 children attending); Christmas Events (with over 200 children attending with their parents); and St Patricks Events (with 150 people attending). |
